Most plaques use the same concept for hanging. There is what is referred to as a keyhole slot cut into the back of the plaque along both the short and long edges. This allows the plaque to be hung either vertically or horizontally. The keyhole slot will allow a screw head to enter into the slot and then slid along within the material until the plaque is balanced. Depending on the weight of the plaque, make sure any screw is screwed into a stud, or use weight-appropriate wall mounting hardware such as a drywall anchor if no stud is available. Optionally, you can also purchase a plaque stand which will allow you to display your plaque on a surface without hanging it. Please call us for pricing and style information on stands.
When choosing a place to hang your plaque, try to place it somewhere that people will notice it. Eye-level is always a good idea, if possible. It is also a good idea to keep them out of constant, direct sunlight, which could eventually cause discoloration.
If you have a trophy or other free-standing award it might be a good idea to set it in its place of honor using quake or museum wax. This stuff is a clear, non-toxic putty that you attach to the award (usually underneath) then press into place. This will hold the award in a more secure way against minor disturbances like the jostling of a desk or small earthquakes. Please note that we cannot guarantee that all of these products will not interact with the substrate causing stains or discoloration. However, the museum quality wax is a standard product used in most museums and should be safe. It is also a good idea to replace the wax application every year or so.
Because most awards are not handled on a regular basis you will probably only have to give it a light dusting every now and then. If you handle it you might have to deal with smudges or fingerprints. When cleaning and polishing your award, be sure to stay away from abrasive cleaners and solutions that are too harsh. We often use a synthetic auto detailer in a spray bottle for a light cleaning and polishing. For more stubborn spots we use goo-gone. Both of these products are widely available at your local building supply store. You should also use a soft, lint-free cloth for cleaning or a feather duster for dusting.
If you purchased your plaque with any blank plates remaining then you probably have questions about how to have these plates engraved as the need arises. This document outlines a couple options on how to approach this.
Your plaque should have arrived with all plates attached -- even the ones that have yet to be engraved. To have a plate or plates engraved simply remove the screws from the plates (setting the screws aside for later reattachment) and send the plates to us for free engraving.
In order to simplify your life we offer two distinct plans for this process:
Mail the plate(s) and the engraving information to us with a self-addressed, stamped envelope enclosed. We will engrave the plate(s) and return it.
Cost: No Charge
(Please note that if there is no self-addressed, stamped envelope enclosed, then you will be billed a $5 shipping and handling charge)
Keep the plate(s) you have, send us an email with the engraving information and we will send you the completed plate(s), which you can then swap out for the blank plate(s).
Cost: $3 per plate and a $5 shipping and handling charge.
Please send your plate(s) to:
